Ian is a Winnipeg-based photographer who
specializes in landscape andnative plant photography. A
career glass-blower, Ian spends as much time as possible outdoors-year-round-with
camera in tow. His body of workreflects his
travels throughout Manitoba and in the Rocky Mountains. Ian's
beautifully shot landscapes and plant photography
bodes well for Heartland. His work in Pelicans to
Polar Bears, Exploring the Fur Trade Routes of North America and
The Great Lake greatly contributed
to the books' nominations for Best Illustrated Book of the Year (with
the first two taking the honor). His most
recent assignment with Heartland was shooting the Queen's royal
visit in October 2002 for the upcoming Crossroads
of the Continent (May 2003).
A particular passion of Ian's is seeking
out and photographing nativeorchids. This splendid flower,
found in pockets of Tall Grass Prairie, has a simple
and striking form, growing in a variety of colors
from yellow, to rose, to white, both pure and mottled. Ian's perseverence
and technical proficency has resulted in
a large collection of this delicate species.
