Tim Higgins
Author of Just Common Sense: The Life and Times of George Taylor Richardson, Dancing Backwards, Shipwreck and Broadway

Tim Higgins has lived in Winnipeg since 1952. His B.Sc. in zoology and graduate work in human genetics naturally led him to a career in acting, directing and writing for television. He has two Blizzard nominations for screenwriting; one for an historical documentary, the other for drama.

Since the turn of the millennium, in addition to his television work, he has written and staged four plays about Manitoba history and authored four books. His first volume for Heartland, Dancing Backwards: A Social History of Women in Canadian Politics, co-authored with Senator Sharon Carstairs, was nominated for both the Margaret McWilliams and Alexander Isbister Awards. Tim has since adapted Dancing Backwards for the stage; he and his cast perform Nice Women Do frequently in venues around Winnipeg.

In addition to Just Common Sense: The Life and Times of George Taylor Richardson, along with Winnipeg writer and publisher Laird Rankin, Tim is also a co-author of a book on Winnipeg's new airport terminal, which is scheduled for release in 2011.
